I have a hangtag!!

I have decided to name the company after my grandmother, Mildred (or Millie) and Great Aunt Hazel. I have always loved this photo of them on their first car ride. I love the free-spirited happy look on their faces and how they have their dresses tucked into the stockings to keep them from flying up.

Grandma Mildred is on the left, Hazel on the right. Unfortunately I did not have the privilege of meeting my grandmother, she passed away before I was born. Hazel was for all purposes my step-in grandmother. One of the most gracious and beautiful people I have ever met.

I can think of no better name for my company :)

...and the adventure begins

Because of the moth infestation this summer I was inspired to start a company. Turning lemons into lemonade...or something like that, right?

Over the summer I saw the alarming amount of moths that plagued Rhode Island and most of the New England area.  I thought nothing of it when they started appearing in the house...without air-conditioning they welcomed the open window policy. As the weather turned colder I dug into the closets to pull out my old favorite cashmere and wool sweaters...only to find they had been a tasty treat for those new house guests...18 sweaters ruined!

What to do with 18 beautiful but decimated items of clothing? Can't wear them...can't donate them. Such a waste.

Enter Christmas. What to get my four beautiful nieces and nephew this year? Something unique and special. Looking around the house my eyes landed on the lovely pile of sweaters and my mind began to turn. Those cashmere sweaters would make cozy happy plushies!

Over the next week or so I shopped for the stuffing, buttons and felt needed to make my idea come together. With a temporarily broken sewing machine I sat down in front of the TV with season 2 of Buffy in the player and set out hand sewing my little dudes. Later I upgraded to my mom's machine and the process sped up considerably. They were a hit with the kids and I have gotten requests from a few friends. Why not build on that?

I had such a good time making them I have decided to start a small business on Etsy and perhaps do some local art shows. ...let the adventure begin :)
